Nirvana on Demand
Downloads from the Promethean Channel
In recent weeks, the Promethean Channel has shared a number of articles that re-envision life as it might appear as humanity progressively unfolds higher degrees of its potential. Listening to talk of such wholeness, completeness, peace, and happiness can be frustrating if the way of experiencing such realities is unknown. Nirvana is the state of perfect peace and happiness to which unfoldment of human potential ultimately leads. Because spiritual aspirants commonly expect Nirvana to dawn only after long and extensive spiritual discipline and practices, they manifest their expectation and remain on the path to Nirvana rather than attaining the peace and happiness they seek.
Nirvana on Demand
While a lifetime of discipline and practice may be required to achieve the ultimate state of Nirvana achieved after fully unfolding our human potential, we can experience relative peace and happiness at each level of human potential we achieve along the way. Imagine living relatively continuous peace and happiness that progressively becomes greater and greater until it has become whole and complete! Wouldn’t that be preferred to continuously struggling as expressed in the words of James Taylor’s 1974 song Walking Man, “Moving in silent desperation, keeping an eye on the Holy Land, a hypothetical destination, who is this walking man.”? Instead of struggle and desperation, we can experience peace and happiness anytime we remember to invoke it.
Remembering to Choose Nirvana
We are living in heightened times of change and disruption. More than ever, we feel fear, anger, etc. as we get triggered by events real and imagined. If there wasn’t accumulated energetic charge in our systems, we wouldn’t get triggered at all no matter what the outside circumstances…in other words, we would experience perfect peace and happiness. Also, if we had no energetic charge, we would have actualized our full human potential. But there is accumulated charge and we experience it as being triggered when presented with circumstances relevant to our individual conditioning. However, we can eliminate the charge directly associated with any trigger we experience and do that each time we get triggered. When we do, we will experience peace and happiness in that moment instead of being besieged by unpleasant emotions. If we do this each time we get triggered, we will quickly establish this as our automatic response, and then we will have as much peace and happiness as our system can muster at each level of human potential we progressively unfold. I like to think of it as a restaurant dish cart dispenser that holds dozens of plates (analogous to the total accumulated charge in our system) but which dispenses just the one top dish at a time (analogous to the charge that’s being exposed by its connection to a specific trigger).
Of course, this technique only works when we remember do it and that can be challenging when we are distracted by our emotional reaction to the triggering situation. However, if we are successful in establishing the habit of proactively dissipating the charge whenever we get triggered, we will have a greatly improved experience as we progressively unfold our human potential.
How to Dissipate Our Energetic Charge
While there may be other methods for neutralizing one’s accumulated energetic charge, following is one that I have used effectively since the late 1990s. It has allowed me to be far less reactive while challenging events of my life were unfolding. While some may see that as neglectful non-action, non-reaction actually fosters a life supported by balance and wholeness. In series 3 of the 1970’s TV show Kung Fu, Caine was told by his master, “When you can walk the length of the rice paper without leaving a trace, you will have learned, Grasshopper.”
Triggers are typically comprised of a storyline (which is our interpretation of the situation that is evoking the triggering experience) and energy (which we can feel). When feeling the push or pull of getting triggered, we can allow the energy to be front and center in our awareness and the storyline to recede somewhat into the background (because putting attention on the storyline will reinforce and strengthen its energy). If we then simply experience primarily the energy, its intensity will diffuse. In a few moments, peace and quiet will replace the experience of being triggered and the storyline will evaporate…it may even be hard to remember what the triggering issue was. If any energetic charge remains, just repeat this simple technique until the energy has completely dissipated. One is now ready to face the issue with greater peace and comprehension and act as effectively as possible, however it may be found that the issue is no longer even worth one’s focus.
By using this approach repeatedly, it becomes habit and the default approach for dealing with our triggers. This means that as often as we get triggered, we are performing a powerful means of eliminating the accumulated energetic charge that creates discontinuities in what would otherwise be our unbounded awareness. As a result, we increasingly experience our awareness as a vast expanse of unfragmented Wholeness. Eventually, when one’s awareness is no longer fragmented and the internal basis for being triggered is eliminated, the external reality ceases to disrupt us because it is experienced in the context of the Whole instead of as isolated fragments of seeming chaos, and life is lived in relative peace and contentment.
Optimizing Your Results
Reducing our tendency of being triggered will bring great peace to our lives. However, it is important to navigate the challenges that may be encountered when attempting the above practice.
The strong emotions experienced while being triggered may be replaced by a sense of emptiness instead of peace. Emptiness can commonly be the experience of peace when we are first using this technique, but with continued practice, we experience peace, expansiveness, and a growing sense of wholeness.
Fear may arise that by reducing our system’s energetic charge and disregarding the storyline being experienced, that we are taking our “eye off the ball” when actually our heightened vigilance is required. However, we are merely dissipating our reactive energy which will allow us to respond more appropriately to whatever of the storyline requires our more balanced and thoughtful response.
The practice might be considered too simple to work. At lower levels of human potential, the everyday experience is struggle requiring the need for hard work. So, we might assume the technique cannot possibly work and not even try it. However, it is well worth doing, as this technique is the tool for creating the experience of ease and flow that is characteristic of functioning at higher levels of our potential.
It is possible to miss the benefit if we are not really doing the practice, even while going through the motions. If we are still keeping the storyline too prominently in our attention, we will continue to be triggered, so allowing it to become secondary to the experience of the associated feelings, really is necessary. With a little practice, this ability can be achieved.
Sometimes people mistake thinking about practicing, as actually doing the practice, which of course it is not. Making space to do the technique versus thinking about doing it, is necessary.
